My Process

I am an Discovery Seeking Watercolour Artist .

I love the colours of expressionist painters and often choose colours based less on hue and more on light and how the the paint colours interact on paper. Since 2018, I have been exploring the delicate transparency of watercolour and granulation of pigments made from natural minerals and semi-precious gemstones to bring light to my paintings. My recent evolution into abstract work marks a deeper, more tactile connection to the landscape I call home. The paintings on this site show a journey of discovering styles that bring me joy.

My current practice moves beyond traditional representation into "elemental mapping." Using a proprietary blend of natural earth pigments, handmade dyes, and granulated professional watercolors, I mimic the Earth’s own processes of erosion and sedimentation on 500 lb cotton paper. By pouring heavy and light pigment layers, I allow gravity to carve paths across the page, creating textures that feel weathered by millennia.

Living within the Tumbler Ridge UNESCO Global Geopark—a region defined by prehistoric trackways, cascading waterfalls, and the industrial rhythm of metallurgical coal mining—my art is a reflection of a land in constant dialogue with time. The work echoes the Geopark’s philosophy: a harmony between the ancient geological story and the modern human footprint. For me, painting has become not just about creating images; it is a collaboration with the physical properties of the Earth—a quiet, modern witness to the enduring power of geological time.

To bridge the gap between the viewer and the mineral world, I have been finishing my newest work with an archival cold wax medium made from beeswax and resin. You’re seeing the gemstones and pigments exactly as they were intended: vibrant, textured, and protected for a lifetime.

A friend once told me that my paintings "speak" to her. That is the highest praise, to have someone see a story, for the paining to evoke an emotion. To bring the painting to life.  Art is about the experience, both that of the artist and that of the viewer. I've shared my story and thougths here, and would love to hear from you too! Share your thoughts, your story, your questions. Come, explore, journey with me.
