When Paint Speaks

Exploring Freedom in Abstract

In November I took a short class by Bird Harris on Mindful Landscapes. The artist used handmade paint made from earth pigments collected with thought for the environment of her local suroundings. The resulting pigments were thinned and poured onto high end cotton paper and allowed to flow and move and then dry. Bird then observed and made each decision based on what she saw the watercolour tell her, sometimes enhansing and sometimes softening the results to create unique abstract art.
In Tumbler Ridge there are a few natural pigments locally, but also there are natural earth and sky colours that resonate with this area that I have aquired over time that were waiting for their chance to speak. This is new to me, coming to a blank paper with no plan and complete freedom to just let the paint speak for itself. These images are unnamed - so they can speak to you without limitation in hope that each person will see something all unique and personal.

Bird Finished her peices by mounting them onto wooden panels and then sealing them. Three of my images are fully complete, mounted and finished with Dorlands wax, the last (for now) is awaiting finishing.
All are available for sale.
